Government Commitment at Highest Levels
Tanzania National Sustainability Conference
The government of Tanzania convened a national conference on May 12th-14th 2015 as a key step in advancing strategies to address and eliminate the root causes of child labour. The conference focused on three thematic pillars: decent work for youth, education and social protection for children, and strengthening of referral systems.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Honourable Gaudencia Kabaka, MP (pictured above), opened the conference, which was attended by over 120 participants and stakeholders, key ministries, national and district level officials, industry representatives, and children and family members of target districts. The event represented the commitment, experience, and knowledge of all sectors invested in the elimination of child labour in agriculture in Tanzania.
